Giorgos Lanthimos’ award-winning film Dogtooth has been signed up for distribution in the United States by Kino International. The distribution will see the movie screen in the United States later this year.

Dogtooth received top prize from the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of the Cannes Film Festival awards, and also walked away with the Youth Prize.

But the successes do not end there; Lanthimos also received a Special Jury award at the recent Sarajevo International Film Festival and lead actresses Mary Tsoni and Aggeliki Papoulia also received Best Actress awards at Sarajevo.

Kino International’s president Donald Krim has expressed great enthusiasm about bringing Dogtooth to the United States.

“We are excited about introducing Giorgos Lanthimos and Dogtooth to U.S. audiences,’ Krim said. “It’s a hilarious absurdist statement about the complications of life in the 21st century and it totally deserved its Best Film prize at the Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard) last spring”.

Dogtooth portrays the life of a deranged, dysfunctional family that has been cut-off from the outside world.

The three children of the family abide by their father’s rules, and the only person they come into contact with from outside the circle is Christina, an employee of their father’s business.

Lanthimos studied film and television direction in Athens. Since 2005 he has directed a vast array of feature films, theatre plays and television commercials.

He also played a large role in creating the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
