South Melbourne Football club announced that the 50th Year Anniversary Gala Ball has completely sold-out, with the remaining tables having been snapped up over the weekend.

Over 700 guests will attend the historic event set to take place at the Crown Palladium.

The event will be once-in-a-lifetime spectacle, with a focus on all eras of the club’s history, and the players who took to the field throughout them, including the merger between Hellenic, Yarra Park and South Melbourne United in 1959, the successful state league campaigns of the 1960s and ‘70s, the history of the club in the National Soccer League and, of course, representing Australia proudly on the world stage at the 2000 World Club Championships.

Many former players, sponsors, administrators and volunteers who have been associated with the club throughout its enviable history have already confirmed their attendance to reminisce about their experiences with the famous Blue and Whites.

As part of the night, the club will also showcase a vast array of footage that has never been released to the public.

It is believed on of the all-time greats of Greek football Kostas Nestoridis will be included in the evening, albeit from a pre-recorded comment.

Nestoridis was the Greek League’s top scorer for five consecutive season while at AEK before joining South Melbourne Hellas in 1966, and at age 36, top scored for South in the league en route to winning the State Championship.

Another fantastic video has been provided by Hollywood actor, Viggo Mortensen, a huge football fan who is rumoured to attend the event.

The club however will be compiling a waiting list for those who have missed out on a ticket.

This list will give those on it first preference in the event of a ticket cancellation.
