Queen of R&B Beyonce Knowles performed live in Athens last weekend. The concert was a one-off performance as part of the star’s I Am… Sasha Fierce tour, and was held at the Olympic Stadium OAKA in Marousi.

Accompanied by her all-female band Suga Mamma, the seven time Grammy-award winning singer presented a marvellous show.

The tour supports the release of her third solo studio album of the same title and is scheduled to travel around the whole globe.

Costume designs and creative direction have been left in the hands of retired French designer Thierry Mugler who has much praise for both Beyonce and her tour, “There will be a lot of dramatisation and metamorphosis on stage.

Some very strong effects have been inspired directly by Beyonce, and only she could make them happen on stage.” The main performance stage for the I Am… tour is a simple one with a pop up set of stairs, an LED background screen and glass risers for the band and backup singers.

A smaller stage also appears in the middle of the crowd where Knowles performs later in the concert. I Am.. Sasha Fierce has become the twelfth highest grossing tour worldwide for 2009, grossing over $US37 million in its first 41 shows.

Billboard magazine journalist Bob Allen has confirmed the tour’s success by stating that, “With then reported grosses topping $US36 million since the tour began, her show ranks among the top 15 grossing tours of the year, with still more dates to come.”
