Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has withdrawn from an event in the Occupied part of Cyprus after critics and Greek speaking Diaspora slammed her for agreeing to do the concert on the 36th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of the island.

Ms Lopez was set to perform at the opening of a new hotel complex, Cratos Premium, in the Turkish occupied northern part of the island on July 20.

However, the Jenny from the block songstress scrapped the show after learning that it coincided with the anniversary of the Turkish troops invasion on the majority Greek island in 1974.

Ms Lopez said she would never have agreed to the concert in the first place if she knew about the history and relevance of the date.

“After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of management to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region,” a representative from Ms Lopez’s management said.
