Sydney Olympic were comprehensively outplayed by the South Coast Wolves who put on a scintillating display to score four unanswered goals and earn their first win on home turf at WIN Stadium on Sunday.

A below par Sydney Olympic were outclassed by their opponents throughout the 90’ minutes, and were fortunate to only trail by a single goal at half-time after Tynan Diaz had given Wolves the lead.

The Wolves’ dominance was duly rewarded in the second-half as goals to Sean van Rooyen, Samet Kaynak, and Mark Picciolini justified their performance on the scoreboard and leapfrogged them above Sydney Olympic into tenth-spot on the NSW Premier League table.

The home-side appeared hungry for goals from the first whistle, with Picciolini and Diaz both forcing saves from Zaim Zanelli either side of Dave Abel’s unmarked header from a Diaz corner, which flashed wide of goal.

Wolves deservedly hit the lead on 20’ minutes when Chris Nathaniel, who had a brilliant first-half, smartly intercepted the ball inside the Olympic half and played Diaz through on goal. The versatile winger coolly slotted the ball inside the far post to open the scoring.

Minutes later Nathaniel cut inside from the left wing and again set up Diaz to launch a swerving drive toward goal, which was palmed away to safety by Zanelli.
The Wolves were unfortunate not to extend their lead on the half hour when Nathaniel’s shot was cleared off the line by Anthony Doumanis.

Picciolini should have doubled Wolves’ advantage on 34’ minutes after a deflection off the Olympic defence put him one-on-one with Zanelli, however he fired his shot too near to the shot-stopper who tipped the ball away for a corner.

Steve O’Connor’s half-time words appeared to spur some life into the Olympic attack. The attacking trio of Mayora, Bamber, and Monie all found space to shoot, however poor aim and confident goalkeeping from Crane denied them an equaliser on all occasions.

The Wolves killed off Olympic’s ambitions with a second goal on 58’ minutes, which was orchestrated by Samet Kaynak; on for the injured Nathaniel at half-time.
Kaynak twice beat Jerry Koularis before breaking into the box and setting up van Rooyen for a tap-in at the far post.

Picciolini found the back of the net after combining with Kaynak minutes later, only to be flagged for offside, before Kaynak himself went within inches of scoring with a 25-yard rocket swerving wide of the post.

The visitors went close to getting back in the match midway through the second-half when Doumanis dummied his way past Alex Mansueto and picked out Monie at the far post, however Crane recovered sharply to make a diving save.

Zanelli also displayed heroics, rushing off his line to bravely block Kaynak’s shot after the substitute was put through on goal by Diaz’s quick free kick.

The Wolves made it three on 70’ minutes when Jason Trifiro smartly picked out Diaz in the box. Diaz’s shot was blocked by Zanelli and fell to Kaynak, who calmly placed the ball into the back of the net.

The scoring was completed 3’ minutes from time Andres Gomez was released on the right wing by fellow substitute Andrew Paine, before passing across the face of goal to give Picciolini the simplest of finishes at the far post.

Picciolini could have added to his tally in injury time, first firing wide, then again having a goal disallowed for offside before Crane denied Doumanis a late consolation to hold onto his clean sheet.
