Five people were killed, four of them Greeks, and several more injured in a road accident on Friday morning near the town on Malgara in the Marmara region of Turkey when a Turkish bus en route to Athens from Istanbul veered off the road and plunged into a ravine.
According to the Turkish authorities, the Greek citizens who were killed are Sofia Mariadi, Minas Solakidis, Arkadios Moisidis and Foto Mytakidi, who also had Turkish citizenship.
Yassar Demirer from Turkey also lost his life. The bodies of those killed have been transferred to the Malkara state hospital.
The names of the Greeks who were injured are Panayiotis Paletidis, Maria Mariadi and Vasilis Naris.
The fifth person reported killed is a Turkish national.
The Turkish authorities believe that the cause of the accident was the slippery road surface due to icy conditions.
A Greek C-130 military transport plane was dispatched to transfer the unharmed passengers back to Greece.
The Greek Consul General Paraskevi Tzivelekou in Edirne (known as Adrianoupoulis in Greek) was at a hospital in Malgara where the injured Greeks were being treated.
