The Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV) is set to announce the first round of donations aimed at funding the construction of the community’s new cultural centre.

As Neos Kosmos understands the total amount of the donations will exceed $1 million. The official announcement took place during a special event at Philhellene Restaurant organised by the GOCMV.

This monetary support is vital not only from a budgetary perspective, but has importance symbolically about the unity demonstrated by Greek Australians on projects of this kind” he added.

As Papastergiadis has said in the past the construction of the GOCMV towerwhich will house the new Cultural Centre- will start in 2012 and is estimated to cost around $12 million The GOCMV has already secured the amount of $2 million from the State Government of Victoria.
