Greek international Sotirios Kyrgiakos has left English club Liverpool to join German side Wolfsburg. The 32-year-old Greek defender joined the Bundesliga club on a free transfer and penned a two-year deal.

Kyrgiakos’ two-year stay at Anfield was ended after he agreed terms with Wolfsburg.

He joined the Reds for £2 million from AEK Athens in August 2009 and went on to score three times in 49 appearances. However, he started only four games under Dalglish last season and despite earning a 12-month extension to his contract his departure had been expected.

Kyrgiakos returns to Germany where he spent two seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt from 2006 to 2008.
