As summer nears closer and closer with every day, so too does the great Australian tradition of the summer music festival. And while thousands of Australians are about to indulge in VB cans, Triple J-played music and pie floaters, Neos Kosmos wondered what a summer music festival would be like with a Greek flavour.
A festival filled with all the best Greek singers – pop and traditional – and some Greek Australian musos to match and you have a music festival fit for a real levendi. Replace VB tinnies with bottles of Mythos, replace bland festival food for a yiros with chips, just like they do in Plaka, and you will enjoy a day never to be forgotten.
Neos Kosmos asked you, the readers, to create your ultimate summer Greek music festival through the Neos Kosmos Facebook page and this is what you voted:
Thanos Petrelis
Your headline act, Petrelis, got the most votes online and it could possibly be more for his Athenian good looks than his pop music. Petrelis the heartbreaker will definitely be our choice to close the festival with a bang and our prediction is that he will close the festival with ‘Pia na sigkrithei mazi sou’.
Pyx Lax
Greek rock band Pyx Lax are the perfect choice for a summer rocking time. Touted as one of the most significant musical acts in Greece in the ’90s, Pyx Lax may have disbanded but the core members are still rocking out.
Haris Alexiou Considered one of the most popular singers in Greece, Alexiou adds a sophistication to the setlist. In her 40-year career, Alexiou’s range is diverse, from Greek rembetika and laika to pop, folk and urban sounds. She will be the standout act of the festival and one guaranteed to pull the crowds. For those who really want to see her perform, Alexiou is touring Australia in November, visit ticketek.com.au for details.
