Through the initiative, Involve, the Victorian Government is encouraging young Victorians to be more active with the government, and their community. The government is calling on the younger generation to apply to join the new Youth Ministerial Advisory Committee.

The committee will present advice to the Victorian Government, allow the youth to be more involved with the decision making process and be involved in program and policy development.

Ryan Smith, Minister for Youth Affairs, told Neos Kosmos that the government is very interested in “hearing about the issues that are important to Multicultural Youth so (they) welcome their input into the committee”.

“We welcome input from Multicultural Youth and the views and perspectives of young persons across our valued multicultural communities,” said Minister Ryan.

There are a total of eighteen positions on the Involve committee for young Victorians aged between 12 and 25 years. Sixteen positions are currently being filled via a public application round, with two representatives from each of the eight Victorian Legislative Council Regions. Eight positions will be made up of young people aged 12-17 years and eight will be aged 18-25. The remaining two positions have been reserved for youth representatives from the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria and the Centre for Multicultural Youth.
