The Manager of English Premier League Club Everton, David Moyes, is excited about the future of young Greek striker Apostolos Vellios.

The 19-year-old was snapped up virtually under the radar at the start of the year for a nominal fee from Iraklis Thessaloniki. The teenager made the substitutes’ bench against Wigan ahead of Louis Saha and he rewarded Moyes with a goal after replacing Seamus Coleman during the game.

Moyes knows Vellios was not the big name fans perhaps expected to see the club sign, however, the Toffees’ financial situation dictates they need to develop and nurture young talent. “He can finish from crosses, he’s got the ability to get on the end of things,” Moyes said of Vellios.

“Technically he’s really good for a big lad, he’s very gifted. There’s something to work with. “It’s the only way we can do it, to give some of these young boys a chance. There’s the best of what we’ve got at the moment.”
