Babis Makridis will be the first ever Greek filmmaker to participate in the competition section of the Sundance Film Festival, one of the highest profile independent cinema showcases in the world.

“We’re extremely pleased that L will receive its world premiere at the Sundance Festival. And it’s a joy we share with our collaborators, who stood by us from the start.” This public statement supported the announcement that L will be featured as part of the World Drama Competition Section, according to flix.gr.

L may be Makridis’ first feature, but the director already had an award-winning short The Last Fakir under his belt. With a script by Efthymis Filippou – of Dogtooth and Alps fame – and Babis Makridis himself, the film is based on an original idea by Yorgos Giokas “about a man who lives in his car”. The central character is played by Aris Servetalis, who is supported by Makis Papadimitriou, Eleftherios Matthaios, Nota Tserniafski, Stavros Raptis, Thanassis Dimou, Christoforos Skamnakis and Yannis Bostantzoglou.

The 28th Sundance Film Festival takes place from Jan 19-29.
