The Slap has been voted Best Australian Drama Series and Best New Australian Show in the 2011 TV Tonight awards for television.
The eight-part series, based on Christos Tsiolkas’s novel of the same name, unravelled and dissected the morale code of middle-class Australia. It showed how a moment – a slap – can have shattering consequences on one family and one group of friends.
George Calombaris’s MasterChef Australia was runner-up in the Best Reality TV category.
