Record demand for class placements in Year 7 has resulted in 23 new students in this year group commencing in 2012. Maximum numbers have been reached, creating a waiting list.

This indicates growth and confidence, placing the school at the cusp of a new era of curriculum initiatives and facilities highly regarded by the Alphington Grammar community. Alphington continues to combine the best of Hellenic traditions with the latest in educational practice. During Term One we will be introducing a new opportunity for young children to interact with their parent or grandparent in a Music and Movement programme specially designed for three-year-olds. “The 3 Bears” will be offering sessions once per week led by an educational dance specialist to stimulate coordination, social interaction and encourage self expression. For us, learning is not just in the classrooms, but throughout the campus, Melbourne, nationally, and across the globe.

The programmes outside the classroom include Junior and Middle School musicals, drama and music performances, debating, leadership, inter-school EISM sports, the list goes on!

Our students have the opportunity to participate in outdoor camps, Canberra tours, community service projects, the metropolis programme in the CBD, cultural art tours of England and France, a Hellenic tour of Greece and in 2012- the inaugural media and iconic American US tour to New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles. Academic excellence is encouraged at every level from Pre-Prep to Year 12. Professional development of staff is a major priority and the introduction of a new level in ICT services will enable our students to remain at the cutting edge of teaching and learning programmes. We are proud of the achievements of our Graduating VCE class of 2011 and congratulate the high percentage of students who received their first choice of tertiary preference to commence at university this year. We encourage past graduates to return to the school and speak to current students about their successful transition to tertiary life and the workforce, both locally and internationally.

The school community warmly welcomes the new school leaders for 2012. School captains are Nicky Serafim and Emmanuel Heretakis. The vice captains are Tasneem Yakub, Stephen Tsaketas and Zihan (Laura) Liu. We wish them every success as they embark on their exciting final year of community and academic pursuits at Alphington Grammar School and look forward to their personal input during the year. They will be leading tours at our Open Day morning to be held on Saturday 3rd March, and all community members are welcome to this showcase event of school life.
