Background: John Giannicos was influenced by accounting and numbers from an early age. It became part of his interest and pursued the world of accounting further at a university level. After working at other firms, he decided to take the leap and set up his own.

Services: At Camberwell Taxation Services, it’s really about the individual case, and ensuring the client gets to where they want to be financially. Giannicos, and his six employeess offer a gammet of services to ensure this happenrs from compliance work, taxation, services for individuals partnerships, companies, trusts, superannuation funds, audits, we also do financial planning and insurance , finance leases loans, mortgage, investment portfolios managed funds, properties and there’s even a Centrelink expert. “At the end of the day, doing a tax return is only about 5 per cent of the whole picture. in the whole scheme of things it’s how you get the clients to where they want to be which is to have options and choices in our lives, which means you need to have money. And given them a range of investments to tackle and make decisions and make sure they make a dollar out of it.”

Looking out for the client: “What I think is this; when I go somewhere, whether it’s getting petrol or buying a pair of jeans, I want someone to talk to me and somebody who knows what they are talking about,” says Mr Giannicos. “I grew up with my parents drumming into me do the right thing and help so technically if I want that, so does the person sitting across the desk from me and it’s that simple. You treat people the way you want to be treated.” With the work, he looks at it as a case by case scenario. “If somebody just wants their tax done, we probably wouldn’t do it but if you want to move forward with your life, that’s where we can help – which is a tax return, tell you how to make some money, tell you how to use your superfund, and so on. “I have a fewc clients on $50,000 married with a couple of kids and I have got them five properties, so it can be done. There’s a whole host of strategies that you put to them and you have to account for changes and fluctuations in the market and you find something that the client is comfortable.”
