Greece is consolidating its position as a global player in the energy field by becoming a non-permanent member of the Executive Committee of the International Energy Forum, the IEF board informed the Environment and Energy Ministry.
The decision carries particular significance as it comes just one year after Greece became a full IEF member through the signing of the forum’s charter by Deputy Minister for Energy Yiannis Maniatis in February 2011.
The candidacy proposal Greece had submitted on March 6 referred to the growing role of the country in the broader region and its new activity in searching for and using hydrocarbon reserves.
The IEF has 89 member states as well as the participation of 11 international associations.
