The importance of cultural diversity as an economic asset in the business world was the key message at the launch of the 2012 National Multicultural Marketing Awards.
Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello said the awards have been instrumental in the last 22 years in highlighting the contribution of “those who use their language and cultural skills and their knowledge of market needs in their former homelands to create new products or exploit new trade opportunities.”
Ethnic media has also been included as a new category in the award. Minister Dominello emphasised the role of ethnic media communications in assisting in maintaining and promoting community languages, cultural diversity, community engagement and trade.
The award launch event point out the role of the NSW Government in supporting cultural diversity in business over the last 15 months, including setting up the Multicultural Business Advisory Panel and developing multicultural tourism initiatives.
The Multicultural Marketing Awards were established in 1990 by the Community Relations Commission to encourage the support and recognition of government service providers’ multicultural client base and to highlight the economic advantages of doing business in a multicultural environment.
