Students of St John’s of all ages got their artistic groove on with their art show, The Red Fly.
The theme of the art show was ‘the ocean’ and the artwork provided had a strong recycling focus. Students in Grade 3 used unwanted water bottles to make fish and students in Grade 1 used plastic shopping bags to make jelly fish. The Prep students created papier mache pigs alongside with their buddies in Grade 6. The Grade 4 students created a landscape using bottle lids and also looked at appropriation of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa. Grade 5 created self-portraits titled “What’s in my head.” They filled their silhouettes with images of things they liked and expressed their uniqueness.
Art teacher Anna Arvanitis, said “I love seeing students engage in the Arts as students develop a higher sense of self-esteem and self-expression”.
