From the moment Irene Margaritis’ second son Andonis was born, she knew something was wrong. The mother of five boys, knew her second born wasn’t the same. A variety of diagnosis’ were offered by medical professionals. She was told he could have ADHD, be lactose intolerant, he could have behavioural issues, an ear, nose and throat problem. But this year she finally found out the truth when her son was diagnosed with autism.
Like many families who suffer with a member with autism, they waited anxiously until they could find the root of the problem. Now, the tireless mother of five wants to give back to families afflicted by autism by organising a charity ball to raise money for the not-for-profit organisation Autism Advisory and Support Service. “My life is a struggle – every day is a battle,” Irene tells Neos Kosmos. “It’s hard work, but it has its rewarding moments as well.”
This is the first charity event organised by Irene who says she is well and truly out of her comfort zone. Being a mother of five boys aged between three and 14 years of age, motherhood is a busy life enough without organising a 400 seated event. But Irene takes it all in her stride and says she has been overwhelmed by the support and people she has met along the way organising the event. And now Irene needs your help to raise as much money as possible for an organisation that gives families with autism the support, help and advice that they need.
On Friday 14 December, Irene is hosting the Red Runway Charity Ball at Fix Live in Rockdale, NSW to raise much needed funds. All proceeds from the night will go to AASS and if you can’t attend, you can still donate direct to the charity. Over five acts will entertain the crowd, each guest will receive a $100 Napoleon Lifestyle gift bag, and a $300 Pixie portrait sitting and photo.
There will also be a fashion parade on the night and fantastic raffle prizes as well as three lucky draw tickets each. Red Runway Charity Ball will take place on Friday 14 December at Fix Live, 588 Princess Highway, Rockdale NSW.
