Respected Greek Australian news reporter Helen Kapalos has been sacked from her weekly news slot by station Channel Ten.

The embattled network has chosen to go to a single reader format with veteran Mal Walden from December 1.

Kapalos has worked as a news presenter for Ten for the past six years until the decision was announced last Friday. Immediately following the shock announcement she left for New York on holiday but not before tweeting ”Fall down seven times. Get up eight.”

Kapalos’ axing, along with other presenters, is part of a swathe of austerity measures and program changes introduced by the Ten Network in its attempt to halt a massive slump in ratings.
