Adelaide held the annual Dimitria festival this year at Flinders University which saw the launch of the LOGOS centre at Flinders University as well as the unveiling of the Aristotle bust that was donated by the Halkidikon society.

A reenactment of Aristotle’s teachings performed by two Greek students George Sinanis as ‘Alexander the Great’ and Nicholas Demourtzidis as ‘Aristotle’, while the official opening ceremony was performed by Grecian Maidens from the girls of the Pyrrhic Cultural Association.

Crowds enjoyed the traditional food and sweets of Greece as well as a great entertainment program.

Barbara Langanis-Diakos coordinator of the Dimitria entertainment and the official opening ceremony, told Neos Kosmos it was a fantastic day with a great attendance and the performances from all the groups were brilliant. The Aristotle and Alexander reenactment and the Grecian Maidens were first class. The dignitaries were very impressed to see youth involved in such an important event and the unveiling of the Aristotle bust was a highlight.

“I am very proud to be a Hellene and we should aim to teach our youth more of our history to help maintain it and to feel the same way,” Barbara Langanis-Diakos told Neos Kosmos. “I would like to thank all the committees and performers involved that helped make this day possible. I am glad to see the youth hold onto our traditions and that they are being exposed to all aspects of our Greek culture.”
