The current committee of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria are set to be reelected at this Sunday’s Annual General Meeting. So far, no one has contested the current committee and it appears the current committee will continue. The GOCMV have had one of the most successful financial years to date, and it is said the work of the current committee has prompted members of the community to continue with the current leaders, including Bill Papastergiadis as the president.
“[GOCMV] had a year that’s been largely successful in terms of cultural product and in terms of reinventing the profile of the community not only within the Greek Australian population but the broader population and that’s been reflected in audiences at our events – including the writers festival and the film festival,” Mr Papastergiadis told Neos Kosmos, adding he has been told by journalists from Greece that the GOCMV is the most vibrant of the global Greek diaspora communities.
He also said that the current committee are likely to be reelected because they are transparent, they work with the community and have ensured that “no favourites are being played” adding the cohesion of the current board as another positive outcome for the Greek community.
The Annual General Meeting will be held at Alphington Grammar on Sunday at 1:30 pm.
