Epirotic Federation of Oceania (Austalia), consisting of Panepirotic Union of Melbourne and Victoria Inc and Dodoni – Epirotic Philanthropic Society, will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Ioannina and Epirus from the Ottoman yoke, on February 21 1913.

Under the auspices of the Federation on Sunday, 17 February, at 7:30 pm, a lecture “Epirus over time” will be held at Epirotic Federation building (19-21 Ferguson St, Abbotsford), with speaker education inspector Mr. Vassilis Gkokas. After the lecture, sweets, coffee and refreshments will be offered. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

As part of celebrations, on Saturday, 23 February, at 7:30 pm, a festive dance will be held at Stars International Receptions (1c Bell St, Preston), with the presence of consular authorities and politicians. Entertainment will be provided by a five member band from Epiros, with K.Vertis on clarinet, and N. Daskalos on vocals.

The special guest of the night, invited by the Federation, will be the Olympic champion Alexandra Tsiavou from Igoumenitsa.

The price, including meal and drinks, is $65. For children under 12 years – $30.

On Sunday 24 February, the service will be conducted at the monastery church Axion Estin (7 Hartington St, Northcote). The service will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial in the courtyard of the monastery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
