The underworld hitman responsible for the 2002 shooting death of convicted killer Paul Kallipolitis – known as P – has had this murder charge dropped.
It was alleged that Faruk Orman drove the getaway car for hitman Andrew Veniamin after he shot Kallipolitis in his Sunshine home more than a decade ago.
But on the eve of his trial, the prosecution dropped the murder charge when it deemed a witness unreliable.
With the lifting of the suppression orders, Orman’s role in the Victor Peirce murder can now be revealed.
Peirce was shot dead by Andrew Veniamin while he sat in his car in Port Melbourne in May 2002.
Veniamin was driven to the scene by Orman in a stolen car. Orman was aged 20 when Peirce was shot dead.
Orman was jailed in 2009 and is serving a 20-year jail term with a minimum 14-year term for his part in Peirce’s murder.
In sentencing, Justice Mark Weinberg accepted counsel’s view that Orman was immature and suffered low self-esteem.
