After a lack of funding stopped the restoration works for the famous ‘Olympias’ trireme, a new Kickstarter campaign might be the group’s last hope.
Part of the restoration team, Vassilis Dovas is hoping the kickstarter campaign will raise enough to fund the restoration, a documentary on the process, all in time for the ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ premiere in New York. Each pledge will receive a special prize, while the big donations will secure themselves a place on the trireme as a rower.
‘Olympias’ is the only fully functioning trireme in the entire world and was the lifetime work of two extraordinary British men – John F. Coates and J.S Morrison. Only if $265,000 is raised will the project go on.
Those wanting to donate have until May 5 to pledge their amount. If the money isn’t raised, no credit cards will be debited.
