Opened last Friday, the former Press Club in Melbourne has taken on a new, less formal look.
Now called Gazi, the Flinders Street restaurant has been more or less gutted to create a take on modern Greek dining somewhere beyond taverna but below its high-brow predecessor.
Hundreds of terracotta pots line the ceiling, and as well as a big wraparound bar, seating is either at timber booths or a communal high table.
Designed by Melbourne firm March, the place looks wonderful: modern, yet with earthy terracotta roots.
George Calombaris’ parent company The Made Group has started work on gutting Little Press next door to create a kitchen and 32-seat dining room that will be the new Press Club.
