Following on from the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Alexandrian poet, Constantine Cavafy, the Greek Australian Cultural League is putting on a special show.
The event, hosted by the Association of Greek Writers and the Panarcadic Association ‘Kolokotronis’ will feature a bilingual program, set to music.
The Antipodes Writers Festival co-chair, Dina Dounis, will start in English, relaying specific milestones in the poet’s life, while reading selected poem to music.
In Greek, Kyriakos Amanatides will elaborate on the character of the poems and their philosophical teachings.
Well-known musicians of the Greek community, James Smith and Achilles Giagkoulis will provide a musical background for the poems.
The event on July 7 will take place at 3.00pm on the second floor of the Panarkadiko Association, 570 Victoria St, North Melbourne.
