Maria Benardis of Greekalicious has a new book out titled Cooking and Eating Yourself to Better Health – How the Wisdom of Ancient Greece Can Lead to a Longer Life. The book aims to give readers the tools and know-how to cook with a Mediterranean mentality. The Mediterranean diet has been proven to be one of the healthiest diets around, full of antioxidants and non-fatty oils.
The first section of Cooking & Eating Wisdom for Better Health begins with the ten ancient Greek wisdoms to adopt in the kitchen and when eating to ensure happy and stress free cooking. Ms Benardis believes “the ancient Greeks had an emphasis on cooking spiritually rather than stressfully”.
The second section reads more like a cook book, with more than 50 recipes directly related to the Mediterranean way. All the recipes are informed by some key ingredients and with controlled portion sizes to ensure the healthy aspects are enhanced. Ms Benardis has based the recipes from Hippocrates and other ancients, who used variations of the recipes to heal health conditions.
“We all have the potential to live long and healthy lives and this book will provide you with the know-how,” she summarises.
The book is the third for Benardis. It follows on from her first cook book, A Greekalicious Feast, and her family orientated My Greek Family Table. Ms Benardis also conducts cooking classes to teach everyone the benefits of Greek cuisine and just recently introduced culinary tours around Greece.
