Socceroos coach Holger Osieck says media speculation over his job security is “a little bit out of order” and that he has no reason to believe Football Federation Australia (FFA) holds doubts about his tenure after being thumped 6-0 by Brazil.

All eyes will be on the Socceroos’ performance over October, with two international friendlies just four days apart.

They take on France on October 11 then fly to London to take on Canada, hoping to get past their abysmal performance in South America, and maybe secure Osieck’s job.

Osieck delivered Australia to a third-consecutive World Cup after taking the reins in 2010 and is contracted till the end of the 2014 tournament.

He hit out at such premature speculation and says pre-tournament work is ongoing.

“We’re in the early stages of preparing for the World Cup.

“We made the major step and we are already there and a lot of great football nations are still struggling and maybe won’t even get there.

“So to question me then, that’s a little bit out of order.”

Osieck outlined several mitigating factors for the terrible loss to Brazil, making it clear they were “explanations, not excuses”.

He highlighted that the fitness levels of players based in Australia and the Middle East were not up to scratch due to the fact they were in the middle of pre-season training, and that many from Europe were not playing regular first-team football.

“In retrospect, it was premature to go there,” he said of the lesson dished out by Brazil. “As long as I’ve been in coaching, it’s more than 30 years, I never had a defeat like that.

“It hurts you all. How I personally took it was probably a lot tougher than what people say.”

The 24-man team will now be working at a feverish pace to get match ready as quickly as possible.

Socceroos stalwart Mark Schwarzer has surprisingly been left out of the team, but Osieck says he still has him as first choice for Brazil.

Mitch Langerak is set to make his international debut, having last week had his first taste of the Champions League with German club Borussia Dortmund.

Tim Cahill and veteran Luke Wilkshire will play again after missing the Brazil match due to injury.

After quite poor performances, Australia has been demoted to 53 in its world rankings.
