Andrew Demetriou might be leaving the sherrin behind and taking up a racquet as the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) new head. Demetriou is in the running to fill the vacant top job at men’s tennis governing body in London. The next AFL season is widely expected to be his last in the job and the AFL boss has been scouted for many jobs.

He had met with tennis officials about the job on a recent trip to the United States after his name had been put forward as a candidate by an emissary.

The ATP’s previous executive chairman Brad Drewett was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in January 2012 and died in May this year, aged 54.

Demetriou has been coy about the offer. Last month the AFL boss said in an interview with 3AW host Neil Mitchell that he was not a “tennis person” and that he has the best job in Australia. He has conceded that he’s been offered a seat by James Packer on the Board of Crown.
