Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia, will attend the opening of this year’s Lonsdale St Festival on Saturday 8 February. This is the third year in a row the Prime Minister of Australia has attended and Mr Abbott’s third appearance as well.

Along with the PM, Denis Napthine, Premier of Victoria and Robert Doyle, Lord Mayor of Victoria will also be at the opening.

Bill Papastergiadis said that the presence of the Prime Minister at the festival reflects positively on not just the Greek Community of Melbourne, but highlights the importance of Greeks in multicultural Australia.

Mr Papastergiadis also stated that having Federal Government representation allows the Greek community to continue dialogue with the government on issues impacting Greece and Greeks of the diaspora.
