V8 Supercars will be launching it’s first ever side-by-side rolling start just like its American counterparts in NASCAR and will experiment with the format at this year’s Australian Grand Prix.

Last season, V8 Supercars introduced a similar double-wide rolling restarts for the 2013 season but later minimised them to the 60/60 Super Sprint races.

The season officially begins on Sunday with a test day at Eastern Creek Raceway, and will include some new changes to the lineup and the format. Along with the rolling start change, the last race will offer double points that could possibly cause an upset between the front runners. Volvo is also new to the scene, entering the race alongside Holden, Ford, Mercedes and Nissan.

Fans will join the Formula 1 crowd to witness the sport’s first ever NASCAR-style race start on March 13.

Admission to this weekend’s official V8 test day at Eastern Creek is free.
