Sydney FC coach Frank Farina has hit out at fans calling him ‘clueless’ as the clamour for him to be sacked continues to intensify.

In his personal blog, Farina posted on Wednesday he was unconcerned by the banners being displayed during last Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Adelaide United demanding the former Socceroos boss should go.

Farina was sprayed with beer while standing on the sidelines during the Adelaide loss, but said he was happy for the fans to voice their opinion.

“It’s everyone’s right to have an opinion, and members and fans […] are more than entitled to make their view known.

“I learned long ago that managing a football team is not a popularity contest,” Farina wrote.

However, he reminded of all the achievements during his career and pointed out:

“You might disagree with what I do, but one thing I’m not is ‘clueless’ when it comes to football.”

After the Central Coast Mariners went down 3-1 at home to Melbourne Victory in round 18 last Saturday, they have a real test to prove when they travell to a resurgent Adelaide United tonight.

United thumped them 4-0 at Coopers Stadium in round 10. The Reds got back on track last week with a 3-0 win away to Sydney FC, that led them to fifth on the table position, just three points behind third-placed Central Coast.

Sydney FC will play Perth Glory on Saturday, with a tense affair expected at Allianz Stadium, that could make for another rough night for Frank Farina.
Sydney’s loss to Adelaide was its third consecutive home loss and a club record. With six losses in their last eight games, their only clean sheet in their
past 10 matches was the Melbourne Victory 5-0 encounter, where they scored as many goals as they have in the other seven games.

Round 18 was just as disappointing for Perth Glory, who lost due to Melbourne Heart’s late goal. With the loss being their fourth in a row game without a win, Glory will need to pick up results away from home. Playing against Sydney FC, with its internal shake ups, may be an opportunity for Glory.
Despite the bad start of the season, Wellington Phoenix’s finals spot has been perfectly timed and the 3-2 win over Newcastle backed up the good form.

On Sunday, Melbourne Heart will travel to Wellington, after being undefeated in four games and scoring nine goals.

Brisbane Roar will host the Newcastle Jets this Sunday, knowing that a good result might have their side accrue a 10-point lead over second-placed
Western Sydney, but also aware that two of its four losses this season have come against the Jets.

Brisbane has six wins from eight home games this season, while the Jets have lost their last three away games, and are winless in their last seven.
