Essendon’s David Zaharakis is said to be ready to sign a three-year deal with the club, hoping to extend his time and improve on last year’s season.

The 2011 best-and-fairest winner played 21 games last season and was dropped from the leadership group this year.

Starting pre-season in good form, the 24-year-old is hoping his performance can secure him a place at the club until 2017.

He has been quite keen to stay and told the Herald Sun “we’re working through that at the moment with my manager and the footy club, just working through the process pretty much”.

“Nothing’s been done yet, but it’s obviously ongoing.”

At the 2013 Anzac Day match, in which Essendon defeated Collingwood by 46 points, Zaharakis won the Anzac Day Medal for best-on-ground performance.

He had stats of 34 disposals, 14 contested possessions, 6 clearances, 6 Inside 50s and 4 goals.

He’s been at Essendon since the 2008 draft and has proven himself as a worthy player.
