The Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane, cordially invites you to the Alex Kondos Memorial Lecture for 2014. Lecture The Pursuit of Beauty in Ancient Greece will be given by Professor Alastair Blanshard from the University of Queensland.

This talk examines how ancient Greek concepts of beauty, especially physical beauty, came into being. It shows what was distinctive about Greek notions that separated them out from their Mediterranean neighbours and explains why those notions of beauty have been so influential in the West. It offers some lessons on the importance of Greek aesthetic principles to today’s culture. This is Professor Blanshard’s first presentation for the Greek Community of Brisbane, a lecture not to be missed.

Professor Alastair Blanshard holds the Paul Eliadis Chair of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Queensland. This lecture is a free Paniyiri 2014 Event. Everyone is welcome.

When: Wednesday 14 May at 7.30 pm
