We might be the lowest ranked team to make it to the world cup, but that didn’t stop the hungry Brazilian media jumping on top of the team the minute they touched down.

They are the first team to make it to Brazil, and with riot police providing a private escort, the Socceroos settled down in their home for the next three weeks in Vitoria.

They had their first training session yesterday and were greeted with green and gold images emblazoned in their training centre, Arena Unimed Sicoob.

The long-haul flight to Brazil took its toll on the squad, which is why coach Ange Postecolgou cancelled the first training session for the players to adjust to the
jet lag.

Now in Brazil, the reality of what the Socceroos will have to face will be much more daunting.

Player Tommy Oar says the reality check will be short lived when the overall excitement takes over.

“I guess now we’re here it’s become even more of a reality and makes it even more exciting than before and we can’t wait to start,” he said.

Postecoglou has just four days in Brazil before he must name his final 23-man squad for the tournament, with four players of the travelling party to miss out.

Australia will play Croatia on June 7 in a friendly before it takes on Chile on June 14 in the group stages of the Cup.
