Vasilis Loizides is taking his first steps in the fashion industry as a menswear designer, with his collection, titled ‘1991’, receiving rave reviews worldwide.

He is now representing his own label, after having completed several internships at fashion houses such as Marchesa and Marc by Marc Jacobs, with excellent remarks.

Loizides graduated with a degree in fashion design from Parsons, The New School for Design, and is currently based in New York.

“I like to pursue the whimsical side of design,” Loizides tells Neos Kosmos.

“I wouldn’t identify myself as a minimalist since I appreciate prints, embroidery and all things colourful and shiny.”

“I always try to figure out what I would like to wear and why in order to understand the psychology and needs of my potential customer.”

His main aim is to merge creativity with wearability, at the same time translating his artistic vision in a way that reflects current culture.

“I try to trust myself in terms of designing, move according to my own taste and aesthetics hoping that my designs will be appealing to others as well,” he explains.

“Being able to keep a keen eye on the fashion scene in order to understand and co-exist with the trends without giving away my personal style is also important.”

In the same way he loves to make a bold statement with his own outfits and style, he experiments with playful colour palettes and different aesthetics in order to create captivating pieces that exude his attitude towards life.

“Designing is an essential means of expressing myself and my creativity.

” Making bold statements through clothes that convey a meaning is a major responsibility for me, as I like clothes that tell a story and help the wearer get into a role,” he admits.

“Fashion for me is all about the role play.”

Loizides has already put across his strong identity in the fashion industry, however, he wishes to focus on the evolution of his collections, and establish strong foundations for his New York-based label.

“I usually go with the flow, meaning that I have my eyes open for opportunities,” he explains.

“Five years from now … I would definitely want to be successful in my career and maybe start something of my own. Time will tell.”
