Greek singer George Tsalikis has been wowing audiences in sold-out concerts in Australia over the past few weeks.

Despite scheduled performances in Melbourne, he had to leave in order to make it into Sydney for more shows.

A post on Instagram revealed that he and his colleagues had to leave Victoria due to the rise of COVID-19 cases.

“Hey kids, good morning! To get a bit of a grasp of how things work in Australia, we were doing our business in Melbourne and today, there’s been one case. One, in Melbourne and they’ve shut down everything. People at home, for one case,” her wrote.

“We are leaving in a hurry going to Sydney where there are no cases to work. It’s a bit like Joker here, but thank God, it’s all going well. If Australia had 4,000 cases like Greece, they’d have dug 150m underground tunnels and would come out in 2024. That’s why they are relaxed and free. We left Melbourne as if someone was chasing us, came to Sydney. We are ready! Sydney should get ready guys!”

Even though the singer wasn’t condemning the Australian government at all, his caption spurred on dozens of negative comments.

In Melbourne for nearly a month, the singer misses his wife Dora Dimitropoulou and their three sons: Angelo, Harry and Vassili. When Angelo turned 13 a few days ago, his wife called him via a video call so he could watch his son blow out the candles. Speaking on Sfera 102.2’s radio show 60 Seconds on Call, he turned to the presenter and said: “Kids forgive me. Can I please do this while on air? Can I?”

Quite spontaneously, Angelo blew out the candles on air, accompanied by listeners in Australia.

George Tsalikis’ last Melbourne concert was scheduled for 6 June but will not take place due to lockdown.
