To mark the end of summer and start of a new season, Bar Lourinhã is being transformed into a Greek taverna for one night only.
Taking place next Tuesday evening, the Melbourne eatery known for its Iberian menu, will turn its attention further afar in the Mediterranean to celebrate Greek food and wine.
The menu for the evening has been put together by Captain Moonlite chef Matt Germanchis and will be executed with co-owner, chef Matt McConnell.
McConnell is all too familiar with Greek cuisine, having spent time on the island of Samos with the family of Bar Lourinhã co-owner, Greek Australian Jo Gamvros.
“We’ve developed a menu inspired by our travels, with flavours that are close to our hearts,” McConnell told Gourmet Traveller.
The tasting menu features cuttlefish cooked in vine leaves and brushed with an ink vinaigrette, pork shoulder immersed in the flavours of olive and oregano, and filo cigars stuffed with sardine and mint.
On the drinks list there will be ouzo from Samos, a rare assyrtiko and Greek reds including agiorgitiko and limniona.
There will also be live music and, rumour has it, some good ol’ plate smashing.
The dinner will take place at Bar Lourinhã (37 Little Collins St, Melbourne, VIC) on Tuesday 6 March at 7.00 pm. To book, call (03) 9663 7890 or visit barlourinha.com.au
