In a celebration of the area’s cultural diversity and to celebrate the women who come from various walks of life in her constituency, Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou will be co-hosting an International Women’s Day morning tea on Thursday 8 March.
The event will recognise the newly-arrived migrant and refugee women who have settled in the area, and pay tribute to the migrant women who have mentored the women into the community, while also acknowledging the tireless efforts of community workers welcoming these women and their families to their new home.
The morning tea is being co-hosted with the Good Samaritan Primary School and Roxburgh Park Football Club who have made conscious efforts to be inclusive and help to create harmonious communities in Calwell.
On the day, each woman in attendance will be given a greeting card from the Museum of Australian Democracy’s latest exhibition ‘The Gift: Art, Artefacts and Arrivals’ to write a message of hope to the new migrants who will soon call Australia home.
