Greek team AEK defeated their hosts, Flamengo, at Rio de Janeiro with a score of 86-70 becoming the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup champions.

The tournament’s final was on Sunday when the Greek team climbed the ranks for the first time, becoming the third Greek club after Panathinaikos and  Olympiacos to achieve the rare title win.

Flamengo posed a strong challenge to the Greek team that led 42-33 in the first half and then continued defending their lead in the second half when Flamengo soldiered on with 47-42.

AEK was more composed than the host team with a huge difference in turnovers: 20 by Flamengo and six by AEK.

Greek player Jordan Theodore scored 22 points for AEK and stood out during the game. Jonas Maciulis also scored 7 points and Delroy James added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

The victory came after AEK’s win over San Lorenzo in Friday’s semifinal.
