Porsche racer and Bathurst 12 Hour class podium finisher Aaron Zerefos will make his debut in the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix this weekend, driving the #29 Mygale for the Patrizicorse/Bertocchi Racing outfit.

While Zerefos has previously competed in the one-make Lotus, BMW Mini Challenge, Toyota 86 and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge categories, notched up seven starts at the Bathurst 12 Hour, and raced in other Porsche events in Australia and America, this will be his first open-wheel event.

“I’ve always wanted to have a go in an F4, I have been following the Australian and European championships and it is very competitive racing,” Zerefos said.

“My whole career has been in tin tops, mainly focusing on Porsche Cup Cars, but I did test a Formula Ford when I first started in motorsport.

“I think to be a complete race driver you need to experience as many different types of machinery as you can. The F4 will be a new experience and a big challenge –  there are some very talented drivers in the field.”

While it may be Zerefos’ first open-wheel experience, he made his debut at the Grand Prix in 2010, competing in the BMW Mini Challenge round

“I love the Albert Park GP Circuit and have had some success there in the past – my plan will be to chip away all weekend and have fun,” he said.

Zerefos shook down the Patrizicorse/Bertocchi Racing F4 at Queensland’s Morgan Park circuit last week.

“It was my first time driving at Morgan Park, but straight away I was able to enjoy the high levels of grip generated by an F4 car.

“I’d like to thank Michael Patrizi and Patrizicorse for the opportunity – I can’t wait to work with the team in Melbourne, they have lots of experience with F4 cars and motorsport in general.”

Zerefos hits the track for practice and qualifying on Thursday, with races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
