It is no secret that Stefanos Tsitsipas likes to disconnect from social media during important games so that he can focus on his tennis playing without distraction. He reconfirmed his stand on social media during a recent interview with The Daily Mail, when the young player commented on how social media affects young tennis aces.
“It is the impatient generation, the generation of the social media, all of this crap,” he said.
“Everything is at a fast pace, much faster than the years before. That’s why I like to disconnect sometimes and live life how it used to be lived before, with more thought and more consciousness. They are impatient, always anxious because that is what social media creates, stress and other s*** you don’t need in your life.
“It’s good to disconnect sometimes and have real chats, conversations with people, do other things that are real and not fake, that are not filled with numbers or digits.”
In his interview, he also complained that Greece did not offer him as much support as necessary. He said that the lack of support is a reason why young kids “are not willing to pursue their drams.
“Also, a lot of families have basic incomes, lower than the rest of Europe and not all the parents are willing to put it all on the table and risk their careers for their kids to follow such a difficult sport,” he said, adding that his mother knew the sacrifices that needed to be made due to her own connection with tennis. “But at the time it was also very difficult. My aunt, her twin, paid some of the bills. From her husband and whatever she had, she was a big help”, he said.
Tsitsipas is playing at the Carlo Masters next.
