New policy grants free access to Greek museums and sites

Greece’s Ministry of Culture has introduced a new policy that gives greater access to Greece’s museums and historical sites.

As of 1 November, 2019, people with a disability, along with their companions, will have free access across Greece.

Among those also entitled for free admission are members of the Greece Chamber of Fine Arts and those of corresponding EU chambers who hold membership cards.

Meanwhile the policy also offers free access to those aged 25 and under from Greece and countries within the EU, as well as senior citizens and recent graduates who have studied history, archaeology, fine arts or restoration.

For their free access, senior citizens and recent graduates are required to apply for a Free Entry Card, which lasts for three years, and can be renewed by the Ministry.

Announced by Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni, in addition to making the country’s sites and museums more accessible, the Ministry hopes the policy will lead to greater interest overall.
