An Iraqi family of refugees gave birth to the first baby born in 2020 on the island of Lesbos.

The baby boy was born in the early hours of 1 January, weighing 2.8 kilograms.

The local daily ‘Ta Nea tis Lesvou’ reports that there were ten babies born on the island in the early hours of January 1, with eight from refugee families and two born of local residents from the island.

Lesbos hospital has had to deal with much larger incidents than what they were used to before the refugee crisis as a result of the needs of the huge influx of people on the island.
