Nick Kyrgios wrapped up an impressive 6-2 7-6(3) 7-6 victory over Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego at the Melbourne Arena, sending down 14 aces – a further $2,800 towards bushfire relief.

The game came to a halt mid-way through the second set when the lights went out. Fans took out their phones and waved them around in the semi-darkness.

 

 

“I was just really excited to get out here, obviously it’s been an emotional couple of months for all of us,” he said.

John McEnroe thanked Kyrgios for his bushfire relief efforts, and announced that he would donate another $1,000 for every set Kyrgios wins at the Australian Open this year.
