Despite not being able to participate in this year’s Greek Independence Day parade, students at Alphington Grammar School, who have been learning remotely for the last two weeks, reflected on how they would pay respect to the day from their own homes.
Grade One student Mary Efthimiou took time to honour those who sacrificed their lives so we could enjoy the freedom we have today with this photo her mother, Mrs Zaf Efthimiou, sent through to the school’s teachers.
In sharing the photograph with the school community Principal, Dr Vivianne Nikou said:“Mary’s moving image pays tribute not only to the fallen but also gives hope to us all in these challenging times.
“It is wonderful to see that families continue to instil in their children a sense of pride in their heritage, history and culture while sending a strong message about faith as we navigate these unprecedented times.”
