Greek English director Andreas Hadjipateras’ film The Last Partisan features on the life of the late great Manolis Glezos, who passed away on Monday.
An integral part of Greek folklore, Mr Glezos is best known as the man who tore the swastika flag from the Acropolis during the Nazi invasion in 1941. Following that, he had lived a mercurial existence, caught between moments of glory and controversy as he battled for his ideals right to the end.
When Greece battled to get out of a crushing financial crisis, Mr Glezos was elected as the oldest member of the European Parliament in 2014, aged 92.
Scolding, lecturing and joking throughout the documentary, Mr Glezos develops a tug-of-war relationship with the filmmakers as they uncover the man behind the myth.
