Now that things in our daily lives have changed dramatically due to coronavirus, more people are searching for ways to ensure a sense of normality in their lives by holding on to their daily routines or through other means.

At such times, it can be very easy to slide down a slippery slope of binge-eating and binge-watching shows on Netflix, which could lead to feelings of depression and self-loathing.

Greek-born lightweight boxing champion Antonia Konstantopoulou told Neos Kosmos we need to search for alternative methods to keep ourselves busy.

“The more creative we are, the better!” she said.

“Something that I do that helps me a lot is to fill my day with activities that fulfil me such as reading, listening to music, dancing, writing songs, watching online lessons, etc.

“That way, when I’m focused on doing something creative, I don’t have the time to think about eating and a simple cup of tea, a cup of coffee or some yogurt is more than enough,” she said, adding that it is important not to be too hard with ourselves.

“If there is a day that we feel we’ve gone astray – something that’s perfectly natural! – we need to accept it since it’s something that we can’t change and we can continue our efforts for a balanced diet from the beginning. It’s also a good idea to avoid unnecessary use of mobile phones that greatly reduce inspiration and vigilance.”

We should only use them if we want to listen to a podcast or music or if we need to call someone,” she said.

Antonia herself is working hard on her own training regime despite coronavirus.

“Thankfully, sport gives you the ability to train no matter where you may be, so I can’t really say that I feel under a lot of pressure,” she says.

“It’s definitely not the same but there are alternatives.

“I’ve been taking advantage of all this time to train my spirit studying my previous games and doing mental exercises (through the Lumosity and Elevate apps) and I’m also focusing on my music.

“I do a lot of long-distance running, I do sprints and since we’re not yet in total lockdown, I do my training outdoors.

“Whether it’s boxing or strengthening, I do all the exercises that don’t need any equipment and I work on many different techniques. Of course, I really miss team training and sparring sessions, but I’m confident that order will be restored sooner rather than later.”

Apart from her professional boxing career however, Antonia is still pursuing her dream in the music industry.

She recently released her brand new single, titled ‘Simple Life’, which she says is all about “conquering the demons we create inside our minds” and focusing on all the little things that make our lives a lot less complicated, which ultimately leads to much more positive emotions.

If you would like to hear her new work, you can find it on popular music streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify and SoundCloud.
