The Australian Chamber of Commerce (ACCI) in collaboration with the Greek Consulate are launching a series of online conferences and conversations as part of establishing a Greek Australian Dialogue series.

Paul Nicolaou, Director of the Business Leaders Council, ACCI and Greek Consul General in Sydney Christos Karras are kicking off said series with Mr Haris Siampanis, Chief Executive Officer, Benaki Museum in Athens.

The Benaki Museum, established and endowed in 1930 by Antonis Benakis in memory of his father Emmanuel Benakis, is housed in the Benakis family mansion in downtown Athens, Greece.

The museum houses Greek works of art from the prehistorical to the modern times. It also hosts an extensive collection of Asian art as well as periodic exhibitions while maintaining a state-of-the-art restoration and conservation workshop.

Although the museum initially housed a collection that included Islamic art, Chinese porcelain and exhibits on toys, its 2000 re-opening led to the creation of satellite museums that focused on specific collections, allowing the main museum to focus on Greek culture over the span of the country’s history.

At this video conference, Mr Siampanis will give participants an update on how the Benaki Museum is managing and responding to Covid-19.

He will outline the Museum’s aims and objectives and finally show case the Museum’s development of Greek culture which supports knowledge, research and freedom of expression.

Following the presentation, viewers will have the opportunity to ask Mr Siampanis a question in the Q&A session.
